Who decides the value of our property?

Jefferson County Property Valuation. The value of your property is the fair market value, which is determined by the property sales in your area.

What do my tax dollars pay for?

When are tax bills mailed?

On or before August 31st each year.

Do I need approval to build a driveway?

You must contact public works to ask for an inspection before constructing your driveway, 502.449.5010, Monday – Friday, 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Residential driveways are allowed to be up to a maximum of 32 feet wide if your property is wider than 64 feet wide.  If you property is a shorter width than 64 feet wide the driveway is allowed to be no larger than half of the width of your property.  Also, where the driveway meets the curb the width is allowed to be up to a maximum of 20 feet wide, no wider regardless of driveway width.   You can email jeff.early@shivelyky.gov, your name, address and phone number and a rough drawing of your plans for review.
